8 Tips for Drinking More Water

Edited 3-4-21.

You have trouble drinking enough water, too? I struggled with it my entire life. I LOVE drinking water, but I knew I never drank enough. I had reasons (didn't like the water contaminants, never thought to drink, I'm not a daily sipper, etc.) But about 6 weeks ago, I figured out a new method that works really well for me. I want to share this and other tips to help you, too.

My goal was to drink one gallon (and so you don't have to run to google to see how many ounces that is, it's 128).

Here are my tips to help you drink more water:

  1. CHUG 16 ounces eight times a day. That's only 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon and evening.

    1. A. Make it 20 ounces, which is only a couple more gulps than 16, and get 100 oz in just 5 water breaks through the day.

  2. Chug your first 16 ounces first thing in the morning. You'll be thirsty, so this is an easy one to down.

  3. Figure out how to take bigger gulps. For me, I realized I have to move my tongue to throw it back.

  4. Take it in one or two breaths.

  5. Try different cups/drinking apparatuses. I find that wide openings are way better instead of narrow ones.

  6. If you like a straw, find one for a smoothie because they are bigger and you'll take more in with the same effort.

  7. Drink water you feel good about drinking. For the longest time, I didn't want to drink water bc it had fluoride and other contaminates that I wasn't comfortable drinking. Once we got an RO system, I feel good about this water going in and drink it without worrying about what else I am downing.

  8. Track throughout the day. I used a piece of paper and literally wrote the day of the week and the numbers up to eight as I downed them. Now, I came up with a block system print-out. Takes less time that way and who doesn't love using printouts to automate life.

In the first FOUR days, I felt the joints in my body loosen up tremendously. I also felt immediate improvements to the condition of my skin on the back of my thighs and butt; it was soft and smooth not rough and bumpy.

Here's the best part of this approach, if I'm having a bad day and really suck at getting my water in, I'm still getting in at least 80 ounces. That's a win in my book! Most days I seem to successfully get in that 80-100 ounces. Amazing for someone that never could drink enough.

So there you have it. Eight tips to drink more water everyday!

Wondering how much you really should be drinking? Best rule of thumb (excluding non-pregnant or breastfeeding mommA) is half you weight in ounces. If you weigh 150 pounds, aim for 75 ounces.
